“The Russian higher education system faces the task of being open to the whole world”: NOSU Rector Alan Ogoev commented on the increase in foreign students.
According to Alan Ogoev, this growth is linked to the rising prestige of Russian education. Another factor attracting foreign applicants is the effectiveness rating of universities.
“The Russian higher education system must be open to the world, export education; we are encouraged to accept foreign students who can not only earn Russian diplomas but also immerse themselves in Russian culture. Each university defines its own admission plan, which is coordinated with the founder. Our education is becoming competitive. Applicants already know in advance that they will be applying, for example, to NOSU or the medical academy, and they prepare specifically for this, learning the Russian language,” commented Alan Ogoev.
Most international students come to Vladikavkaz through a quota. Many of them arrive in the country through Rossotrudnichestvo, whose representatives conduct testing and initial selection on-site.
As Alan Ogoev noted, the most in-demand fields are technical (engineering) specialties and medical programs, while linguistics and education are slightly less sought after.
Currently, 185 foreign students are enrolled in higher education programs at NOSU.
