The III Vladikavkaz Economic Forum dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Soviet economist, Doctor of Economics, and Professor at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Nikolai Tsagolov, has started at the North Ossetian State University named after K.L. Khetagurov.

The forum’s activities are being held within the framework of thematic sections and round tables, where issues related to Nikolai Tsagolov’s scientific legacy, regional economic policy in modern conditions, and training specialists for the economy sector are discussed.

The forum opened with a plenary session attended by representatives of the republic’s authorities, Russian and foreign economists, representatives of state structures, the public, the business community of the republic, and other subjects of the Russian Federation.

On behalf of the rector of NOSU, the forum participants and guests were welcomed by the university’s vice-rector for scientific activities, Tengiz Tinikashvili. He noted that Nikolai Tsagolov’s scientific creativity is still relevant and in demand in training higher education economists.

Honored guests of the plenary session included family members of the scientist, including Nikolai Tsagolov’s grandson, Alexander Tsagolov, an economist and graduate of the economics faculty at Lomonosov Moscow State University.

“For us, it is especially important that Nikolai Alexandrovich and his legacy are not only prominently inscribed in the history of Russian economic thought and the chronicle of the golden names of North Ossetia but also continue to be part of a living discussion, included in the discourse on today’s economic problems. And despite the changing times, Nikolai Alexandrovich’s contributions to pedagogy are exceptional. He did not teach students to memorize but encouraged them to think logically, to distinguish the essential from the secondary. He was not only a teacher in the classical sense of the word; he could engage students, electrify his audience, and make people unafraid to think vividly,” noted Alexander Tsagolov.

The session continued with presentations on the role of Nikolai Tsagolov’s works in modern economic science and education, the prospects for socio-economic development in North Ossetia, and aspects of foreign economic activity.

The work of the thematic sections will continue tomorrow, December 10, at NOSU. One of the sessions will take place in Nikolai Tsagolov’s hometown in Digora, at the Historical and Memorial House Museum of the scientist.
